What Do You Need?

Have you ever felt like your life is so hectic that your mind swirls with about ten different thoughts at once? Your heart needs something, and you know your spirit and soul are out of sync, but you’re not even sure what exactly you need to feel better. You find yourself crying out to the Lord in prayer, but even your prayers feel lifeless and dull. Then Jesus suddenly and tenderly interrupts you mid-cry and asks, “What do you want me to do for you?”

Sometimes we have a list of prayers a mile long, and other times we haven’t stopped long enough to figure out precisely what we want. Slow down. Take a deep breath and take some time to get to the root of things. Whining that everything’s out of control isn’t going to change anything. Be intentional and specific with your prayers and then believe that he’s ready to answer. Give yourself time to unwind in his presence.

Jesus, thank you for reminding me to slow down and pay attention to what I need. I’m going to sit in your presence and be still so that you and I can figure it out together. You are the Good Shepherd who leads me into all truth.
