Day 18 - GAIN
The summer season makes me reflect on the times in my life that have felt easiest, happiest, and most filled with blessing. Those times were wonderful, and often what we are anticipating most in our lives. The countdown to the next holiday, the next day off, or time with the people who bring us joy, Ecclesiastes 3:5(b). These are the times when we are most acutely aware of the good things we have received from God, and how much we have been blessed by living a life with Him at the centre. It’s a time of counting our blessings; the great gifts we have received, and the small everyday things we can take for granted.
What have you received from God that you are thankful for?
How are you displaying your gratitude to God?
When we become familiar with the nature of our Father God, we can neglect our great opportunity to celebrate who He is, and the great gifts and blessings that we experience when we follow Him. In the Old Testament we see people time and again gathering stones to become ‘altars’, visual reminders of battles won, ground taken, and victories received. They knew that our memory lets us down sometimes, and they valued creating a tangible prompt to help them reflect on the goodness of God that they had already experienced. Let’s be those who are intentional about thanking God, and displaying our gratitude for all that He is doing in our lives. Often our wishlist can be longer and get more airtime in prayer than our thank-you list. Let’s be those quicker to count our blessings than our burdens, as in Psalm 103:2
How can you make a habit of keeping your eyes on the benefits of this season, rather than what is lacking?
