Power Read The Bible In 60 Days With Jeff Anderson

DAY 56 OF 60

Day 56

FLYING HIGH…AND LOW

[Scheduled Reading: 1 Corinthians 10-16; 2 Corinthians 1-13]

For 56 days, we’ve been flying high - looking at the scriptures from skyscraper levels.

But today’s read reminds me of a season in my life where God had me reading the scriptures at ground zero, on my hands and knees, with my nose in the grass.

The verse I read was 2 Corinthians 8:12. Paul is preaching on financial giving, specifically about what he called an acceptable gift.

I thought about that verse for a few years. Eventually I left my position with a global ministry and started my own ministry called Acceptable Gift.

From there God led me on a very deep-dive study on the theology of giving. Going all the way back to the gifts of Cain and Abel, I peeled the onion in answer to my questions: what kind of gifts are acceptable to God? What kind of gifts are not acceptable? How does God see our gifts?

The end result was a stack of notebooks in my office containing my research on the gifts of the Bible, including a thorough study of the Old Testament sacrifices.

Out of this effort came a book called Plastic Donuts: Giving that delights the heart of the Father.

Five years later, over 30,000 copies have been shared in churches across the continent and even beyond.

I’ve really enjoyed my power readings of the Bible over the past year. It’s opened up a whole new way of experiencing God’s Word.

But this reading experience should not replace the need for me to dig deeper and look closer at God’s texts at the micro level. A simple verse (again, 2 Cor. 8:12) changed the trajectory of my life and ministry calling.

And you likely have a signature verse or two that has deep meaning for your life.

God’s Holy Word is vast. It’s mind boggling to think of the global collection of Christian works and changed lives as a result of a single verse or passage of scripture.

Okay, let’s get back up into the air. We’re about to land the Bible-read soon but still have a few more days to go!
