What to Do When Life Doesn't Make Sense

DAY 3 OF 7

Then What?

What you do with your questions once you have asked them is crucial. Sometimes an answer comes quickly. Other times, it takes time (even a lot of time). And some answers you get you might not like! Then there are the questions that are never answered in this lifetime. You simply have to trust God.

Most questions will not have instant answers, which means once you’ve asked your questions, you need to put them on the back burner.

Let me explain with this illustration. Let’s say you’re making stew. You put a pot on a front burner, where you brown the meat or add chopped veggies and spices. After all the ingredients are in the pot, you move it to a back burner where the food can simmer. You set the timer and forget about it, then you go on cooking the rest of the dinner on the front burners.

That’s what you need to do with your questions. Picture yourself putting them into a big pot and then pushing the cookware to a back burner.

You might pray something like this: Father, here are my questions. Now that I’ve asked them, I’m going to put them on the back burner of my life and keep “cooking” on the front burners. I’m going to keep thinking about moving forward and growing in You. I’m going to keep reading Your Word, believing You, loving You, seeking Your will, and obeying what You tell me to do. I’m going to keep on trusting You.

When you pray this kind of prayer, instead of camping out in your questions or at your point of hurt, you keep your heart and mind on God’s truth and His good plan for your life.

When you push your “questions pot” to a back burner, you’re making a stand to keep believing in God, keep trusting Him, and move forward.
