What to Do When Life Doesn't Make Senseনমুনা
Go Ahead and Ask
Sometimes life can be hard and painful. I wish there was a way to protect you from heartbreak, loss, or disappointment altogether, but there isn’t. We live on an earth with the curse of sin, which means that awful things sometimes happen.
Has anything ever happened that makes you want to ask, “Why, God, why?”
Maybe your very foundation has been shaken by death, illness, a broken relationship, a financial disaster, a bitter disappointment, or another life-altering circumstance. As a result, you may be having trouble moving past the pain. You may be seriously doubting your faith in God.
I want you to know that there is One who understands. God has a way to bring you through your hardest times. He is faithful and He loves you so much! He doesn’t want you stuck in the land of questions and pain – He’s made a way out. He wants to heal your broken heart and help you embrace your bright future.
Maybe people have told you, “You should never question God.” I’ve heard that, but I disagree. When my husband died I had questions!
Let’s face it—we’re asking the questions anyway. God knows what you’re thinking, even when you keep silent (see Luke 5:22). So why try to be all super-spiritual and hide your questions from Him? If you don’t ask, those questions might stand between you and God. Besides, He can handle whatever you say. You can’t scare Him – He’s heard it all!
He already knows everything that’s happened in your life, and He also knows everything that will happen —so who better to ask? He’s the guy with all the answers!
I say ask God all the questions you want. I think He is the first one you should ask. So go ahead -- here are some honest questions you may have:
Why did this happen?
Why didn’t You help me?
Why did You let this happen?
Why is it taking so long?
Did I miss Your will?
Can I ever trust myself/anyone/You again?
Be honest. Ask every scary, ugly, angry question that has already passed through your mind. You might even want to write your questions down and date them, maybe in a private journal or on a calendar. This is the first step to getting past the pain.
