All In
Timothy was being instructed by his mentor to uphold the two pillars of the Christian faith: 1. Biblical truth. 2. A lifestyle that is consistent with those truths.
We live in a culture where tolerance is the new trend. One can be well learned in biblical thought and live contrary to his/her beliefs and yet still be respected. One can also be a good person completely uninformed by biblical truth and still be respected.
What Paul prescribes as the God honoring way is to marry the two. In the song “All In”, we are calling our generation to God’s prescription. As believers we must preach the gospel with clarity, boldness, conviction, and love. We must also demonstrate the power of the gospel in our lives. According to the Apostle (1 Timothy 4:16) what’s at stake is the salvation of our soul as well as the souls of those who hear. This is unmistakably a call to be “All In.”
Paul also says that we ought to “...persist in this...” which means there will be resistance and temptation to shrink back or completely give up. We will experience spiritual fatigue when our culture makes us appear intolerant, irrelevant, and mean for speaking the truth.
We will experience spiritual weariness while promoting Christian morality in a culture that values what the Bible would consider immoral pleasures. However, we are commanded and equipped to stand firm. This command is possible based on the hope we have. 1 Timothy 4:10 says, “...because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.” Salvation, provided by the living God is the motivation and reason we are able and equipped to be “All In.”
Let this scripture charge you to preach the gospel both when it's comfortable and when it’s not. Let it also encourage you to daily crucify your flesh and be “All In.”
