The Letter to the Church in Ephesus
1“Write this to the angel of the church in Ephesus:
These are the words of the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands.
2‘I know what you’ve been doing, how you’ve been working long and hard. I that know you don’t tolerate evil people. You’ve tested those who claim to be apostles but aren’t, and you’ve discovered that they’re fakes. 3You’ve been faithful and you’ve endured a lot of trouble because of me. You haven’t given up.
4‘But I hold you responsible for this: You’ve lost the love you had at first. 5Think about how far you’ve fallen! Realize how you’ve gone wrong, and go back to the things you were doing at first. If you don’t, I’ll come and take your lampstand away. 6But you do have this in your favor: You hate what the Nicolaitans are doing, just as I hate it.
7‘Whoever has ears should listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches. If anyone wins the victory, I’ll let them to eat from the tree of life that’s in God’s paradise.’
The Letter to the Church in Smyrna
8“Write this to the angel of the church in Smyrna:
These are the words of the one who’s the First and the Last, who died and came to life again.
9‘I know that you’re suffering and that you’re poor—but you’re rich! I know how you’re being insulted by people who claim to be Jews but aren’t. They’re a synagogue of Satan. 10Don’t be afraid of what you’re going to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you’ll be mistreated for ten days. Be faithful, even if you have to die, and I’ll give you life as your victory crown.
11‘Whoever has ears should listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches. If anyone wins the victory, I won’t let that person be hurt at all by the second death.’
The Letter to the Church in Pergamum
12“Write this to the angel of the church in Pergamum:
These are the words of the one who has the sharp sword that has two edges.
13‘I know that even though you live where Satan has his throne, you’re still faithful to me. You didn’t give up your faith even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city, where Satan lives.
14‘But I hold you responsible for a few things. Some of you are following the teaching of Balaam, who showed Balak how to lead the people of Israel into sin. They ate food offered to idols and they committed sexual sins. 15You also have people who are following the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16So turn away from your sins! If you don’t, I’ll come to you soon and fight against those people with the sword that comes out of my mouth.
17‘Whoever has ears should listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches. If anyone wins the victory, I’ll give that person some of the hidden manna. I’ll also give each of them a white stone with a new name written on it. Only the one who receives this name will know what it is.’
The Letter to the Church in Thyatira
18“Write this to the angel of the church in Thyatira:
These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like polished bronze.
19‘I know what you’ve been doing. I know about your love and your faith. I know how well you’ve served me and that you haven’t given up easily. In fact, you’re doing more now than you did at first.
20‘But I hold you responsible for this. You’re tolerating that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. She has led my servants into sexual sin by her teaching and she has tricked them into eating food offered to idols. 21I’ve given her time to turn away from her sinful ways, but she refuses. 22Since she’s always encouraging people to “go to bed” with others, she’s going to “go to bed” herself: She’ll be sick in bed for a long time. Those who’ve been committing adultery with her will suffer greatly too, unless they turn away from what she has taught them to do. 23I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I’m the one who searches hearts and minds and that I pay each person back for what they’ve done.
24‘The rest of you in Thyatira haven’t followed Jezebel’s teaching, and you haven’t learned what some people call “Satan’s deep secrets.” 25I’m not asking you to do anything else except to hold on to what you have until I come.
26‘If anyone wins the victory and does my will to the end, I’ll give that person authority over the nations, 27just as I’ve received authority from my Father. “They will rule them with an iron scepter and break them to pieces like clay pots.” 28I’ll also give the morning star to anyone who wins the victory. 29Whoever has ears should listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.’
