A Night Prayer

1Answer me when I call,
God, who vindicates me. # 4:1 Or God of my righteousness,# 4:1 Ps 7:8; 26:1; 35:24
You freed me from affliction; # 4:1 Ps 25:17; 107:6,13
be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
2How long, exalted ones, # 4:2 Lit long, sons of a man will my honor be insulted? # 4:2 Ps 69:7–10,19–20
How long will you love what is worthless # 4:2 Ps 12:2
and pursue a lie? Selah
3Know that the Lord has set apart
the faithful for himself;
the Lord will hear when I call to him.
4Be angry # 4:4 Or Tremble and do not sin; # 4:4 Eph 4:26
reflect in your heart while on your bed and be silent. # 4:4 Ps 77:6; 119:55 Selah
5Offer sacrifices in righteousness # 4:5 Or Offer right sacrifices,# 4:5 Dt 33:19; Ps 51:19
and trust in the Lord. # 4:5 Ps 37:3,5; 62:8
6Many are asking, “Who can show us anything good? ”
Let the light of your face shine on us, Lord. # 4:6 Nm 6:25; Ps 80:3
7You have put more joy in my heart
than they have when their grain and new wine abound. # 4:7 Is 9:3
8I will both lie down and sleep in peace, # 4:8 Ps 3:5
for you alone, Lord, make me live in safety. # 4:8 Lv 25:18; Dt 12:10; Jr 32:37; Ezk 34:25
