1 Peter 4

4
Receiving God’s Grace
1Therefore, since Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, # Ro 6:2, 7 2so that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh serving human desires, but the will of God. # Mk 3:35; Ro 6:11 3For in earlier times of our lives it may have sufficed us to do what the Gentiles like to do, when we walked in immorality: lusts, drunkenness, carousing, debauchery, and abominable idolatries. # Isa 28:7; Eze 44:6 4They are surprised that you do not join them in the same excess of wild living, and so they speak evil of you. # 1Pe 2:12; 3:16 5They will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. # Ac 10:42; 2Ti 4:1 6For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, # Eph 2:1, 5; 1Pe 3:19 so that even though they might be judged according to men in the flesh, they might live according to God in the spirit.
7The end of all things is near. Therefore be solemn and sober so you can pray. # Lk 21:36; 1Pe 1:13 8Above all things, have unfailing love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins. # Pr 10:12; Jas 5:20 9Show hospitality to one another without complaining. # Php 2:14; 1Ti 3:2 10As everyone has received a gift, even so serve one another with it, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. # Lk 12:42; 1Co 4:1–2 11If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. # Ac 7:38 If anyone serves, let him serve with the strength that God supplies, so that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, # 1Co 10:31 to whom be praise and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Suffering for Your Faith
12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though some strange thing happened to you. 13But rejoice insofar as you share in Christ’s sufferings, # Ro 8:17; Php 3:10 so that you may rejoice and be glad also in the revelation of His glory. 14If you are reproached because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, # Mt 5:11 because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. # 1Pe 3:16 15Let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or even as a busybody. # 1Th 4:11; 2Th 3:11 16Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God because of it. # Ac 5:41; 26:28 17For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God, and if it begins first with us, # Jer 25:29 what shall the end be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? # 2Th 1:8 18And
“If the righteous one is scarcely saved,
where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?” # Pr 11:31; Lk 23:31 # 4:18 Pr 11:31.
19So then, let those who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator, # Ps 31:5; Lk 23:46 while continuing to do good.
