DAY 1: VISION - PART 1

We all live in the same world but see it through a different lens. We can all see and experience the same circumstance but can be shaped by it differently. Our worldview is determined by our faith, experiences, relationships, and surroundings. These four pillars develop the lens through which we view, filter, and process information in our daily lives. To progress fully into our purpose for the future, it is vital that we create a vision for what we see ourselves becoming and who we see it impacting. Otherwise, like the writer of Proverbs clearly articulates, “without vision, we will perish.” My interpretation of “perish” in this context is to infer that we, as individuals, will fall short of our potential. Without vision, we are at risk of failing to maximize our gifts and strengths to advance God’s Kingdom, as well as bless others along the way.

Similar to the vision Moses had for Joshua as a leader, the vision God gives us might seem beyond the scope of our natural abilities. Of course, Joshua had followed Moses long enough to understand leadership, but he was understandably fearful. However, Moses encouraged him by telling him to be strong and courageous (Deuteronomy 31:7-8). Sometimes the vision seems overwhelming and impossible; however, it becomes possible in God’s grace and wisdom. As in Joshua’s case, our God-given vision is meant specifically for us. A healthy, productive vision is personal to who we are and what we can contribute. It is less about comparisons to others and more about our unique capabilities. How we see ourselves should align with how God sees us and what His word says about us. We are limitless once we comprehend that we are His design, created for a purpose, and called to walk in a clear vision for that purpose.

While you may agree with all of this, you may be wondering how a vision becomes practical and how you tangibly create a specific vision for your future. It is easy to place unnecessary pressure on yourself when attempting to quantify a vision. The vision might change or require adjustments along the way. There is also flexibility in the timeframe. Some may be within the next twelve months, and some might be for the next twelve years. Regardless of semantics, what’s important is that you simply begin the process of brainstorming, dreaming, and praying about your vision.
