He Said, She Said, He Saysعينة
The impact of the number three on our experiences as humans is undeniable. Our story is divided into threes. Think about it:
• Past, Present, Future
• Beginning, Middle, End
• Here, There, Everywhere
• You, Me, Them
The Olympics and other sporting events provide further proof of the power of three. First place received gold, second place is given silver, and third place receives a bronze medal. In so many contests, people stop counting after third place. The human brain either does not care or doesn’t remember who comes after third.
The number three is even seen in the media! The Three Stooges, The Three Musketeers, The Rice Krispies mascots, and ABC, CBS, and NBC are called The Big Three!
If you're reading this, you’re probably wondering how this fits with a relationship plan, right?
Here’s how:
In Ecclesiastes, it is said that two are better than one because in the event one fails the other can lift them up. A cord of three strands is not easily broken, as each strand serves to strengthen the others when they are being tested.
Solomon was talking about the power that relationships can have. The three cords represent the bride, the groom, and the most important cord of all: God.
The opposite of this threefold cord is a couple who live parallel lives. They are both moving toward individual goals and fulfillment separately, and they rarely intersect on an intimate level, leaving room for the enemy to work a wedge into the gap. You see, the threefold cord that you see commonly in a Christian wedding ceremony should start with two individuals who are first tightly bound to the Lord. Then, when we become one, the Lord is already present in that oneness.
Before Christ can be at the center of our marriage, He must be at the center of our own hearts as individuals. And, if we haven’t found our identity in Christ and our security first in our relationship with Him, then our cord isn’t as strong as it needs to be. The beauty of a three-strand cord is that it makes you stronger. God knew this from the beginning.
So, who are you connected to? Is it what he says? Is it what she says? Is it what HE says?
