Most of the things that we deal with in our life have to deal with the posture of our hearts.
Where is your heart postured right now?
You see, man will look at your appearance, but God looks past your appearance and sees your heart.
I can remember a moment in my life where this idea first hit me, and the impact that it had on the way I lived, the way I spoke, and the way I presented myself.
I was speaking with an individual who mentored me periodically, and we were talking about the success that I was experiencing at that time in my life. My business was doing well, the numbers were through the roof. I was beginning to come to a time in my life where I was able to take care of my family. Things were looking up for me.
My mentor turned to me one day and said, “God isn’t impressed by your talent. People may be impressed by your talent, but God isn’t. What will impress Him is your character.”
At first, I was taken aback by this statement. I didn’t know how to feel about it. Because at face value, it sounded as if my mentor was not happy about my success. Yet, in reality, he was simply reminding me to check my own heart and intent. Was I still doing this with good intentions, or was I letting the newfound success go to my head?
I’ve had people compliment me on my skills as a salesperson or on the leadership found within my business, but these compliments don’t matter. It doesn’t matter what people may see on the outside, because the Lord sees what is on the inside.
And it’s what is on the inside that matters.
Who are you? What are your intentions? Are they in alignment with God’s will?
And if they aren’t, are you willing to change them so that they are?
It’s a hard question regardless of the position you’re in.
You have to be able to set aside the “me” for the “we” for Him!
