Confess and Repent
Now that you’ve practiced talking to God, you can build on that by learning the importance of confession and repentance in your life. When you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and were baptized, you confessed your sins to him, and you accepted His forgiveness. Confession and repentance are a daily surrendering of yourself to God and turning away from the things of this world.
Imagine if you were driving a car and you ignored the signs ahead that signaled a sharp turn. That would be foolish and would most likely lead to an accident or maybe even death. It could cause harm to others and to yourself. Essentially, that’s what repentance is. It means recognizing when you are heading toward sin and instead, intentionally turning away from it and toward God so that your sins will be forgiven.
Repentance is a good thing! It is not a punishment. God already knows all the things you’ve ever done. He has seen you at your best and He has been with you at your worst. He wants you to bring all those moments to Him and admit your need for His transformation in your life. Then you can trust God to turn all of it for His good. While it may be easier to bury our sins, He desires to give us freedom and forgiveness as we surrender it all to Him.
Reflection
Write down a confession to God about something you are not proud of but you know you need freedom from. It may be an ongoing struggle for you or a moment of regret. It is important to acknowledge this area of sin to Him. Ask God to help you turn from that sin and walk toward Him in obedience.
