DAY 30 OF 30

Babble in Babel

The babble in Babel may have seemed productive, but it was spiritually dangerous for people. The people worked well together with one unified language, but they made a mistake when they left God out of the plan. God considered their communication mere babble and did not appreciate self-righteousness and selfish ambition. Like the people of Babel, it's easy for us to believe that our self-centered efforts bring some glory to God.

Making a name for ourselves focuses on us instead of God. We exist to bring glory to God, and He alone should be recognized. The people were so fixated on their achievements and status that they overlooked God. They worked together to establish fame for themselves, and God knew their unified effort would have a terrible outcome.

God confused their languages to prevent further damage and selfishness. His divinity wasn't threatened, and He didn't do this as an arrogant dictator. God doesn't waste anything, even our foolish ambitions. He is creative and makes beauty from our bad choices. Today, there is still plenty of division because of arrogance and pride, but thankfully, God creatively came to us as Jesus to show us the pathway back to his glory.

Question: What sin do you think humans committed against God at Babel? How does this sin still exist today?

Prayer: Examine your life for any babble and ask God for strength to turn from it. Take a moment to give God credit for what he has done in your life.
