DAY 1 OF 30

God Brings Order to Darkness

God lives outside of time as we know it. Unlike everything in creation, God has no limits; his presence is everywhere. These things about God can be confusing, so it may feel like there is a void in understanding our relationship with God.

We all have "voids" in our lives, and big or small, those voids matter to God. Notice in today's reading that before anything was created, God was there. In the same way, whatever your circumstance is or will be, he is already there. Sometimes life may feel devoid of truth, provision, or a sense of God's presence, and you may have difficulty with unfulfilled desires. God cares too much to let anyone feel alone and assures us that he is right there with us.

God created heaven and earth as a place for us to live now and a place to live forever with him. Initially, creation was all in darkness but still in God's presence. Before he created water and formed the earth for us to inhabit, God was already thinking of what we needed. He created light, exposing the darkness so we can notice how God brings order to darkness. Jesus is the light of the world, and the Bible is a complete description and interpretation of God's love for you. Look to scripture and focus on Jesus while you examine yourself. Don't ignore these empty spaces; instead, bring them to God.

Question: Where do you need more of God today, and how can you practice being aware of his presence?

Prayer: A healthy way to fill the void we discover in our lives is to ask God, "Who do you want to be for me at this moment?" He is our source of life, so ask him how he wants to fill you in the places where you seem to be lacking.
