Drowning?

Have you ever been surfing? Have you ever gotten up on your board just to get dragged under the water? We know of one True Story of a TeenStreeter who was pulled under, and as the tide moved back out, the rope from the board went around her neck. She could both feel and hear it pulling tightly and could feel the urge to gasp for air under the water. The fear in those moments was so very real, and the thoughts flashing through her mind of drowning were so scary. She didn’t drown, but she still remembers those feelings vividly.

Have you ever felt like the psalmist, like you were drowning in other ways? You have so much school work, so much stress, so many decisions to be made, issues with friends, sadness in the family. In verses 1 and 2, he describes these feelings so well. He is overwhelmed and calling out to God. There is no other place to go in these moments. No other name, nor anything else can save or help us like God can. There is a call for help in verse 17, “Answer me quickly for I am in trouble.” In verse 18, he says, “Come near and rescue me.” When you are feeling overwhelmed and like you are drowning in life, call out to God! He will answer you. He hears you, and He is close. He will lift you up.

GO DEEP: Ask God today to lift you out of the floodwaters that may be coming over you in life. Tell Him how you feel. Ask Him to replace any lies you are believing instead of His truth.
