Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the Psalmsናሙና
The Words of the Lord are Flawless
How good it is to know that somebody has your back? A loyal friend is someone that speaks well about you to your face - and also behind your back. Did you know that the average person speaks at least 7,000 words per day?! Words can speak joy and life, or they can speak negativity and death. Maybe you’ve been lied to before or even been lied about. Feeling betrayed is incredibly painful, and it seems like David knew exactly how that feels. In desperation, he begins this Psalm by telling God about all of the previously loyal and faithful people that have deserted him.
Verse 6 says that “the words of the Lord are flawless”. In the previous verse we see the Lord speaking, declaring promises about safety and protection for the poor and the needy. His words are perfect; He is not a God that lies. Now let’s take some time to think about what kind of friend we want to be: someone loyal that walks in integrity, or someone that lies and flatters people? Let’s cling on to the Lord’s words today, for they are flawless like silver or gold. Let’s be loyal friends, and take the time to bless and look after the poor and needy around us.
GO DEEP: Take some time today to think about the loyal friends and family you have around you. How can you show your appreciation for them today? Why not give them a phone call or send them a message right now to thank and encourage them? Secondly, who are the poor and needy around you? Think about how you could bless them today.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
