Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the Psalmsናሙና
Woe to the Man
This Psalm is a roller coaster! Get strapped in. It has the widest range of extremes of all the Psalms! It moves from the depths of darkest cursing, to the heights of proclaiming God's gentle care for the needy. It is a Psalm that is misunderstood by most - there are few that have walked the depths of darkness reflected in this song. There are few that can relate to it. Even if you cannot relate to a song written in the middle of dark pain, learn this from the Psalm: It is a good thing to bring your emotions to our God and let them overflow (or explode!) with Him. Doing this allows Him to speak into the darkness, and sometimes we get to see what He sees. We don’t have to get everything right when we go to the Father or say all the right things. The enemy wants to use your hurt to turn you away from the Father, turn your back to Him. The Father wants to see your face and wipe away every tear.
GO DEEP: Read Mark 12:21 and Acts 1:20. This song also points to Judas, the man that betrayed Jesus for money. A song cannot get much darker!
Vs 26: The Psalm pivots in the second half as the writer takes the attention off the enemy and begins to call out to God for the psalmist's own needs. What is it about our God that the writer depends on?
Vs 28: Our God can turn curses into blessings! That’s how amazing our God is! End by looking at the last verse of the Psalm. If our God is like this, what is He asking us to do today?
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
