Fervent: Fight Fear With Faith ናሙና
God’s promise and assurance here—to never leave us nor forsake us—are so oft-repeated that our senses are sometimes dulled to all that it implies. The next verse adds some potency to the promise. The Greek word for helper is boēthós which essentially describes someone who is ready and waiting to run (yes, run!) to our aid as soon as we cry for help. Just imagine that. This is the God of the universe who is standing alert and watchful, thoroughly prepared to respond to whatever we may throw at Him. The verse is essentially describing how God is constantly with us, waiting to help us – all we need to do is shout for assistance! What a comfort it is for us today; we need some respite from the trials we are experiencing. It’s a reminder of who our God is – a Father poised and prepared to race to His child’s side the minute he/she cries out. Also, it’s an assurance that He is not going to abandon us. That truth inspires confidence to tackle any problem head-on, stating boldly (as the verse says) that the Lord is our helper, so we have nothing to fear!
Pray for:
• A willingness to cry out for help believing that He is able and willing to assist us.
• An unwavering trust in God’s promises.
• The spirit of fear to be cast out of our minds and souls.
