Who Is God?ናሙና
God is Spirit
God does not have a physical body like humans or animals. He is not discernible with our five senses.
Throughout history, people have found it difficult to believe in an invisible God. People groups around Israel had idol statues or carved images of their gods that they could see and worship. Israel was forbidden to make an image of God in the “10 commandments” (see Exodus 20). God made it a very important rule that people should not bow down to a carved image. The eternal, spiritual God cannot be reduced to something material.
That God is spirit also means that He is not bound to a particular place. Therefore, all people on earth can worship him at the same time, wherever they are.
Do you find it difficult to believe in an invisible God? Do you see how having a physical body would confine God’s omnipresence, and would limit the possibilities of worshiping him?
