Love God Greatly: Risen

DAY 17 OF 40

The temple in Jerusalem was an incredible building. It was adorned with the finest metals, built with the best materials, and decorated with the most expensive treasures. If you visit Jerusalem today you can still see specks of gold in the temple ruins. One of the fascinating aspects of the temple was a curtain that stretched from floor to ceiling (about 30 feet high) hanging at the entrance to the inner sanctuary. God’s presence dwelled in the inner sanctuary, behind this curtain.

When Jesus gave up His spirit and died on the cross, that curtain was torn in two, ripping from top to bottom. The tearing of the curtain after Christ’s death signified that we were no longer kept from God’s presence because of our sin. We are no longer separated from God because Jesus’ death has justified us. His death provided us with the sacrifice we needed to be right before God. His resurrection allows us to be forever counted as righteous and granted access into God’s presence.

Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to provide a way for me to experience Your presence. You are truly a good God who cares for Your people, including me. Help me see the ways You work mightily in my life to bring me to You. Amen.
