Praying for People Around Youናሙና
Widows and Widowers
Yesterday, we prayed for newlyweds. But today we pray for those who are at the end of the journey that those newlyweds just began.
The death of a spouse is unlike any other tragedy. It’s the loss of life, yes, but in one sense it’s also like losing a part of one’s self. The pain that comes from this type of event cannot be understated. Yet, we also know that we worship a God who comforts others—who provides peace and a warm embrace to those who need it.
Today, we lift up those who need it. If you know of any widows or widowers, pray for them by name. Then, ask God to show you the ways you can be his hands and feet to them and how he might use you to show them his love…
God, your heart is tender toward those in our communities who have lost their spouses. Some of them are in the difficult position of raising children all alone. Others are living by themselves for the first time. Father, you know what it’s like to experience loss. You lost your one and only Son so that we could be found. Jesus, you know what it’s like to be alone, for on the cross, you experienced total separation from the Father so that we would not need to. Please meet the needs of the widows and widowers in our midst. Place them in spiritual families where they can experience your love, joy, and peace. Help me to be mindful of those around me who have experienced loss. May I be a source of comfort and encouragement to them. Amen.
