Praying for People Around You

DAY 5 OF 11

Newlyweds

Newlywed bliss is its own type of happiness. There’s a reason they call it the honeymoon phase. There’s the feeling of a fresh and fun start and the enjoyment of spending time with the person you most love. And it’s this happiness that we want to pray for today.

Let’s ask God to give newlyweds the full enjoyment of the first few weeks and months of marriage that that time offers. Ask him to help them create habits and patterns that will help their marriage grow and flourish for years to come.

And for those couples who are already facing difficulties and trials, even at the start of their marriage, we’ll pray for them too. This unique season of life is one that needs the hedge of protection God offers it, and that’s what we’ll pray for the newlyweds around us...

Kind Father, I pray today for newlyweds living in our communities. Many of them are young couples, entering into marriage for the first time. Others have recently remarried after divorce or the death of a spouse. They are establishing patterns of communication and behavior that will influence them for years to come. For those who don’t yet know you, we pray that they will discover a life-changing relationship with Jesus. And for those who do know you, we pray that Christ will be the center of their home. May they be kind and tenderhearted, forgiving one another just as Christ Jesus has forgiven them. Protect them from anything that could sabotage their relationship—addictions, infidelity, or consumer debt. Enable them to develop healthy patterns of communication and intimacy. Give them unity in their decision making and parenting. Surround each of them with a caring church family who will encourage their relationship. Please grant them a happy and healthy marriage for a lifetime. Amen.
