Walking With GodVoorbeeld
Take a step!
“Walking with God” implies walking with God. Seems obvious, right? It means moving when God is moving and taking action when God calls you to obedience. This is why Paul urges, “Let us keep in step with the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25).
I picture the Holy Spirit like my wife. Kim is a fast-walking woman who was raised by her mother, Candi, an equally fast-walking woman. You can only imagine what it is like to be my kids on a family vacation with their long-legged, marathon-runner dad and their on-the-move mom! We push them pretty hard so they can see more of the world than those sitting around.
God’s Spirit pushes the pace, too, and he wants you to keep in step. When temptation comes, he’s moving fast into obedience, holiness, and trust. Can you picture him? When you’re annoyed with someone, he immediately steps toward a deep breath, toward patience, toward not snapping in anger. When you are thinking about a past sin, he leaps toward grace, toward the cross, toward remembering the God who remembers your sins no more. He loves you too much to let you sit down in sin and shame. That’s why he wants you to keep in step.
The next time you are tempted, picture the Spirit stepping ahead, looking back in love, and encouraging you to keep up. Then take a step! Because there’s nothing better than walking with God.
