Were you ever afraid of the dark? I’m not talking about getting a little nervous when the time came to turn out the lights. I’m talking about a deep, dark fear that overwhelms you; the kind of fear that feels as though something is pressing on your chest the second you find yourself in complete darkness - that feeling of being wholly alone and unable to see anything around you. That fear needs more than words like, “I’m here.” That kind of fear needs more than just a small night light. What a comfort to know that God is always there. What hope we have knowing He is holding our hand. He’s always close enough to touch - close enough to reach out and grab when the fear becomes too overwhelming. And while we may not be able to actually feel God’s hand in ours, there are some things we can do to remind ourselves that He is there. One thing you can do is to comfort yourself with the promises God has made to us: Memorize scripture that tells you we have nothing to fear. Practicing saying these words over and over to the point that they become second nature. Now, when fear comes to creep up, you have the words to say that remind you of the presence of God - to remind you that His hand is there for the taking if you just reach out.
