Day 6 — Go Tell It on the Mountain
After Jesus was crucified and resurrected, He only walked the earth for another 40 days. During that time, there were only a few statements He made that were documented, one of which is found in Mark 16:15, which says, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (NKJV). This is a command, and what Christians call the Great Commission.
You see, Christmas is more than just a celebration of the birth of Jesus—it is a celebration of everything He did for us at the Cross. Jesus emphasized the importance of sharing that with others.
If you’re looking for a Christmas gift for Jesus this year, you can do what the lyrics say in an old African American spiritual song and “Go Tell It on the Mountain.” Dating back to before 1865, when it was formally compiled by John Wesley Work Jr., this popular Christmas carol has been performed and recorded by many gospel and secular artists. It remains a powerful reminder of what Jesus instructed His disciples and all of us to do that day.
As you listen to this song, you will be inspired to get up, dance and share the good news. Go ahead and sing along…
Go, tell it on the mountain,
over the hills and everywhere;
go, tell it on the mountain,
that Jesus Christ is born.
As you celebrate the birth of Jesus and all Christ has done for you and your family, make sharing the gospel with friends, family and strangers part of your holiday plans. Most people are more open to hearing about Jesus this time of year. Many are reflecting on hurts and disappointments or are suffering from loneliness. Take the time to minister the love of God to them and bless them far more than you will ever know!
Merry Christmas! Go tell it on the mountain!
