And Then the End Will Come: The Promise of Matthew 24:33Voorbeeld
Day One: Introduction
The modern state of Israel is a miracle—an unequivocal fulfillment of ancient prophecies that in the end times God would regather his chosen people into their ancestral land. The reestablishment of Israel is also an unmistakable sign that we are living in the last days and may provide an important clue about the timing of the return of Jesus Christ.
Jesus told his disciples that the regathering of Israel would be a clear sign of his imminent return. In Matthew 24:32–34 he said,
Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.
The fig tree is an important Biblical symbol of the nation of Israel, and Jesus’ allusion to “its twigs get(ting) tender and its leaves com(ing) out” is a poetic way to describe its regathering in the last days. And what does Jesus say? “Even so, when you see all these things”—meaning, the regathering of the nation—"you know that it”—Jesus’ return and the end of the age—"is near, right at the door.”
This seven-day study will take you through the key verses and ideas concerning the promised regathering of Israel in the last days and Jesus’ promise that he would return soon after the nation had been restored. I hope it will be a blessing to you and that it will help open your eyes to the amazing time in which we live.
