Giving & Repentant
David had a giving heart. God did a lot for David and my guess is that David thought about it often. To show his appreciation, David wanted to build a temple for the Lord. But when God said Solomon would be the one to build His temple, David did not get upset. Some people would feel rejected by God but not David. Instead, he made up his mind to supply everything that Solomon would need to build the temple. Profound! So, who would you say built the temple? ‘Using every resource at my command, I have gathered as much as I could for building the Temple of my God’ 1 Chr.29:2. David had a giving heart.
David had a repentant heart. It is because of David that we have Psalm 51, a classic model of true repentance. David was at the wrong place at the wrong time and it led to him sinning against God. Worse still, David attempted to coverup his sin and it led to murder. God was grieved and so He sent Nathan to confront David. Unlike Saul, David repented immediately. God forgave David but God still disciplined him and David accepted God's discipline whole heartedly. Whom the Father loves, He chastises.
If God loves you, He will discipline you. God disciplined David, this same David that He loved so much. The truth is, forgiveness does not mean you will not face the consequence for sin. So, if there is anything in your life that will bring shame to the Name of Jesus, I urge you to please deal with it today. David came clean with God,
“Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned And done this evil in Your sight” Ps.51:1, 3-4. And God restored his heart.
Thought: What is the Holy Spirit stirring up in your heart? Talk to God about it and commit to a new direction – a God direction.
Prayer: Father, please give me a new heart, and put a new spirit in me. Take out the stony, stubborn heart and give me a tender, responsive heart, in Jesus Name [Ezekiel 36:26]

God pays close attention to the heart, yours and mine. In fact, the heart determines most things spiritually. Your heart can qualify or disqualify you before God. This is why God instructs that, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Your heart is your greatest asset and you have to pay close attention to what flows in and out of it.
