2 Timothy 2

A Good Soldier of Christ Jesus
1So you, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. # Eph 6:10; 2Ti 1:2 2Share the things that you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses # 1Ti 6:12 with faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3Endure hard times as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. # 1Ti 1:18; 2Ti 1:8 4No soldier on active duty entangles himself with civilian affairs, # 2Pe 2:20 that he may please the enlisting officer. 5Anyone who competes as an athlete is not rewarded without competing legally. 6The farmer who labors should be first to partake of the crops. 7Consider what I am saying, and may the Lord grant you understanding in all things.
8Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David, # Mt 1:1 according to my gospel, # Ro 2:16 9in which I suffer trouble like a criminal, # Php 1:7; 2Ti 1:8 even with chains. But the word of God is not bound. 10Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, # 2Co 1:6; Col 1:24 that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. # 2Co 4:17
11This is a faithful saying:
If we die with Him,
we shall also live with Him. # Ro 6:8; 1Th 5:10
12If we endure,
we shall also reign with Him. # Ro 8:17
If we deny Him,
He also will deny us. # Mt 10:33
13If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
He cannot deny Himself. # Nu 23:19; Ro 3:3
An Approved Workman
14Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord # 1Ti 5:21 not to argue about words, which is useless, # 2Ti 2:23 to the ruin of those who hear. 15Strive to show yourself approved unto God, a workman who need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16But avoid profane foolish babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness, # 1Ti 6:20; Titus 3:9 17and their word will spread like gangrene: Among them are Hymenaeus # 1Ti 1:20 and Philetus, 18who have erred concerning the truth, # 1Ti 1:19 saying that the resurrection has already occurred, # 1Co 15:12 and who overthrow the faith of some. 19But the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” # Jn 10:14 and, “Let everyone who calls on the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
20In a large house # 1Ti 3:15 there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also those of wood and clay; some are for honor, and some for dishonor. 21One who cleanses himself from these things will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, fit for the Master’s use, # Isa 52:11 and prepared for every good work. # 2Ti 3:17
22So flee youthful desires and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, # 1Ti 4:12; 6:11 with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. # 1Ti 1:5 23But avoid foolish and unlearned debates, knowing that they create strife. # 2Ti 2:14; Titus 3:9 24The servant of the Lord must not quarrel, but must be gentle toward all people, able to teach, patient, # 1Ti 3:2–3; Titus 3:2 25in gentleness instructing those in opposition. Perhaps God will grant them repentance to know the truth, # Ac 8:22; 1Ti 2:4 26and they may escape from the snare of the devil, # 1Ti 3:7 after being captured by him to do his will.
