2 Thessalonians 2

The Man of Lawlessness
1Now, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and concerning our gathering together unto Him, # Mt 24:31; Mk 13:27 we ask you 2not to let your mind be quickly shaken or be troubled, # Mk 13:7 neither in spirit nor by word, nor by letter coming as though from us, as if the day of Christ is already here. # 1Co 1:8 3Do not let anyone deceive you in any way. For that Day will not come unless a falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction, # Da 7:25; Mt 24:15 4who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or is worshipped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself as God. # Eze 28:2; Da 11:36; 1Co 8:5
5Do you not remember that when I was still with you, I told you these things? 6Now you know what restrains him that he might be revealed in his time. 7For the mystery of lawlessness is already working. # Rev 17:5, 7 Only He who is now restraining him will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8Then the lawless one will be revealed, # 2Th 2:3 whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth, # Isa 11:4 and destroy with the brightness of His presence, 9even him, whose coming is in accordance with the working of Satan with all power and signs and false wonders, # Mt 24:24; Rev 18:23 10and with all deception of unrighteousness among those who perish, # 1Co 1:18 because they did not receive the love for the truth that they might be saved. 11Therefore God will send them a strong delusion, # Ro 1:28 that they should believe the lie: # 1Ki 22:18–22; Eze 14:9 12that they all might be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. # Ro 1:32; 2:8
Chosen for Salvation
13But we are bound to always give thanks to God for you, # 2Th 1:3 beloved brothers of the Lord, because God has from the beginning chosen you for salvation # 1Th 1:4 through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. 14To this He called you by our gospel, # 1Th 1:5 to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. # 1Th 2:12
15Therefore, brothers, stand firm # 1Co 16:13 and hold the traditions which you have been taught, # 1Co 11:2 whether by word or by our letter. # 2Th 2:2
16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, # 1Th 3:11 who has loved us and has given us eternal consolation and good hope through grace, 17comfort your hearts and establish you # 1Th 3:2; 2Th 3:3 in every good word and work.
