The Fire Within

DAY 2 OF 35

YOU'VE GOT BACK-UP READ When Moses died, God appointed Joshua to take his place. He was going to have to follow in the footsteps of one of the greatest leaders in history. On top of that, he would also have to lead the people into new territory—the Promised Land. God’s command to Joshua was simple: be strong and courageous. Three times God gave him that command, each time with a different extension. The first time, God told Joshua to be strong and courageous because he was going to lead the people. The second time, God said to Joshua that if he did everything the Scriptures commanded he would be successful. And the third time, God told Joshua that He would be with him everywhere he went. In the same way, we can be nervous about what the future has for us. But like Joshua, we can be strong and courageous when we remember that God will use us to lead others to Him, that God gave us His Word to guide us and make us successful, and most importantly, that God will be with us wherever we go. REFLECT 1. What new responsibilities is God calling you into? What are you anxious or fearful about right now? Which of God’s promises to Joshua can best help take away that fear? 2. “Encourage” means “to put courage.” Who are the people who put courage in you by reminding you of what God has promised? Are you making time with them? RESPOND 1. Thank God for new growth and responsibilities. Ask Him for grace to do what He’s called you to do. 2. The next time you feel anxious or fearful about the future, remember that God is with you wherever you go.
