DAY 32 Thirst The One who quenched so many people’s thirst, is now in a place where He is thirsty. In these moments He has to rely on others to help Him. He cannot choose who He wants to assist Him. He is now dependent on others to fulfill this natural, human need for water. It’s hard to put myself in such a position of receiving. It is much easier to remember times when I gave to others – to give something that they truly needed at the time, and I am grateful that I was able to give. This is one of the things that He had done so abundantly. When I give in such a manner, He equates my giving to others as a giving to him (Matt 25:40). It is more difficult for me to be at the receiving end. Seeing how Jesus received from the soldier in his hour of death, in that moment his enemy and representing his enemies, I become aware of the challenges associated with receiving. I want to grow in the ability to receive and especially to receive from anybody, even if it is someone who does not share my faith and my values.. What to do when I visit a psychologist and realise we do not share the same beliefs, while fellow believers warn me to protect myself from the damage that such a person is able to do to my spirit. To admit that I need help is already a difficult step. To then rob myself of receiving by refusing it from someone who does not share my faith, is absurd. I am thirsty and need to drink! EXERCISE • Take a few moments to, through reflection prayer*, to admit to yourself what your needs are and how to deal with them. • Thank God for all the people that come your way to meet your needs. • Talk to God about it.
