Aftermath: Coming Down The MountainSample

Aftermath: Coming Down The Mountain

DAY 12 OF 14

Domino

I love dominos! Not the pizza (although, I love pizza too). I’m talking about the little plastic tiles that you line up in patterns, and then you knock over the first one, and watch them all topple over. Its mesmerizing to watch! Sometimes, I get lost in youtube video after youtube video, always amazed at the precision and scale of the impact that one little domino can make.

In a lot of ways, your life is playing out like a set of dominos.

You make one decision, that bumps into the next decision, and the next, and so on, and so on. That’s why some of us have a really hard time making decisions; we’re worried about how many dominos we’re going to topple over and if they’re the right dominos, and if our dominos are going to mess up anyone else’s dominos…

I get anxiety just thinking about the magnitude of how one little decision can change everything.

In Luke’s Gospel, he says that Jesus made a decision, the kind of decision that He wouldn’t go back on. Jesus was headed to Jerusalem. In various Bible translations it says, “He set His face,” or, “[He] steeled Himself for the journey,” or, “Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.” Jesus made one BIG decision, and it impacted all of His other decisions. He knew that the Father’s plan for Him was to end up in Jerusalem, so He could die for the sins of the world.

So He decided to knock over one, massive domino. Nothing would stop Him from going to Jerusalem.

How do you get over the anxiety of, “Am I making the right decision?” day to day? Topple the big dominos. Make the big decisions, stick to them, and the subsequent decisions will all have to line up with your one big decision.

Just like dominos.

Challlenge:

  1. What one, big decision can you make today that will help you to stay on the path that God has for you?

  2. How do your decisions impact others?

  3. PRAY: Lord, help me to get the big decisions right so that I am on a path that leads me to where You are guiding me. Amen.
