Dare to dream big 

When we are truly grieved by what grieves God’s heart, we will be willing to sacrifice and take risks. When we operate in the fierce urgency of now, seeing the moral condition of people as their most pressing need, we will sacrifice our pride, our time, our finances to act in audacious faith. 

For Peter, Jesus never said, “Come, I’ll make the water firm.” He just said to him—come. And Peter was expected to step out into that confused, muddy, messy, scary place. Those who are willing to take the greatest risk to step out by faith get God’s attention and will enjoy His favor and provision. 

As we study the Scriptures, we see individuals that seem to be portrayed as super human—Esther, Joshua, Rahab, Abraham, and many others. Yet, it was in them taking simple steps of obedience that God acted in mysterious and miraculous ways. Sometimes we fail to see ourselves in this same light in human history. 

In Acts 26, we see an audacious man named Paul change the entire landscape of the world through obedience to what God had asked him to do. 

By the end of Acts, Paul is in chains for his faith. He’s before King Agrippa and Festus—who represent the power of the world and this earthly kingdom. And what does Paul say to them? He tells them his testimony of salvation.

Friends, when we know which kingdom we belong to, we can have audacious faith. We can stand and say that the Great Commission is not an impossible dream of a future generation. It is the reality of ours. God is working everything together for the proclamation of His Gospel to a new generation in ways and mediums that 10 years from now we’ll look back on and say, “Look not at what we’ve done. Look at what the Lord has done.”

Lord we come boldly before you today. We know that you are amazing and can do things beyond what our finite minds can imagine. We pray for you to give us big dreams. Don’t let us limit you with our fears or small, safe plans. But make us bold ambassadors for your kingdom. Surround us with your Spirit, and may power go forth as we share the truth boldly, grounded in your Word and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
