Week 2: Be a Man for Your Family

God is our primary example of a father figure. Those of us who may not have had great father figures can always look to His example. The Psalmist here describes a feature of God’s role as our father – compassion. Compassion is a choice – as fathers, we don’t always feel like extending compassion. We make the choice because God chose to feel compassion for us – taking concern with even the smallest details and issues in our lives.

This is an aspect of a good father – taking an active interest and having concern for even the smallest portions of our children’s lives. This is also something we need to learn to extend to our friends and family. In simple terms, we need to stop thinking so much about ourselves, and be concerned with others. Not only does this bless those around me, but also, it helps me to heal. The more I get my eyes off myself, the more God can move in my life.

Practical Steps

  1. Today, choose to actively listen to your children, friends, and family; turn your phone off, tv off and take your kids somewhere and spend time with them.
