USUKU 29 KWEZINGU- 30

September 29

Introduction

Even though the Corinthians had become followers of Christ, they continued to argue with each other and returned to doing some of the "worldly" things they were doing before they heard Paul's message. In admonishing them, Paul reminds the Corinthians that God has given them the Holy Spirit.

Scripture Reading

1 Corinthians 3:1-23

Today's Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 3:16

Surely you know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you!

Reflect

On what basis does Paul claim that the Corinthians are living according to worldly standards (verses 3, 4)? Reread verses 5-11. Using the analogy of planting a seed, how does Paul describe the work that he and his co-worker Apollos did in establishing the church in Corinth and helping it to grow? According to verse 11, who is the foundation? Reread verses 16 and 17. Why does Paul say that the Corinthians are God's temple? In what ways can believers today be God's temple?

Pray

Almighty God, because your Spirit lives in me, I am your temple, and your temple is holy. I seek to follow your teachings and to grow in wisdom that is in accord with your will and in service to you. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.

Tomorrow's Reading

1 Corinthians 4:1-21: The apostle Paul reminds the Corinthians of the work he and the other apostles have done among them.
