Stay on Track! Paul's Letter to the Galatians

USUKU 24 KWEZINGU- 25

Whatever one sows, that will he also reap

The one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” (Galatians 6:8)

The title of this devotional is taken from Galatians 6:7. Maybe you heard this before as a kind of proverb but it is important to read it in the right context. Otherwise, you may get the impression that we humans simply get what we deserve. That is not the case in God’s Kingdom!

Verse 8 gives a valuable explanation. If you sow “to your own flesh,” you’ll reap nothing but corruption. So, if you live and work in your strength, without God, according to the principles of this sinful world, you’ll reap nothing good. No matter how hard you try, the result of your life won’t stand the test.

The alternative is to sow “to the Spirit.” This means you’re guided by the Holy Spirit and live in His strength. The result of such a life is abundant. God promises you “eternal life.” This is not earned; it is pure grace.

Living by grace should not make you lazy. Be encouraged to do good, knowing God will reward your work abundantly. Paul says: “As we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10). Do you do so?

Stay on Track! Paul's Letter to the Galatians

Paul wrote a letter to the Galatians because he was very concerned about their spiritual well-being. They were in danger of straying from the right path, and Paul goes to great lengths to keep them from that. His explanations and advice are still extremely relevant today!
