Daily Bible Reading – August 2021: God’s Word of PromiseIsampula
August 9
Introduction
Moses tells the people that the LORD will drive out the seven nations that are in the land the Israelites are to occupy. He reminds them of the LORD’s love and that they will be blessed if they obey God’s laws.
Today’s Scripture Reading
Deuteronomy 7:1-26
Today’s Key Verse: Deuteronomy 7:21b
[Moses said:] “The LORD your God is with you; he is a great God and one to be feared.”
Reflect
When the Israelites were preparing to occupy Canaan, they were told to defeat the people who occupied the land. Total destruction was intended in order to remove temptations that would cause the people to turn their backs on the LORD. Are there temptations today that cause people to turn away from God? According to today’s reading, what are the blessings of obedience for the Israelites if they obeyed God’s laws? In what ways do you experience God’s blessings?
Pray
Sovereign God, may I never turn away from you. When temptations come my way, give me the strength and will to remain loyal to you, trusting in your constant love and care. Amen.
Prayer Concern
The ability to avoid temptation
