Gathering in Jesus’ name

During his earthly ministry, Jesus was physically with his disciples. But He knew that He would return to his Father in heaven. In Matthew 18:20, He assures his disciples that He will nevertheless be in their midst.

The Bible urges believers to meet together. Many local churches organize worship services on Sunday, small groups in church or at home during the week, prayer groups, Sunday schools for children, and so on. That’s a good thing to do! For when Christians gather together in Jesus’ name, something important happens. Jesus Himself promises to be in their midst.

Many Christians worldwide don’t have the opportunity to attend church services or other large meetings. This can be due to health problems or age, to regulations during a pandemic, or to a government that is hostile to Christianity… Especially if you are facing such limitations, let Matthew 18:20 encourage you. We don’t need hundreds of people for Jesus to come in our midst. We don’t need a nice building or any other peripheral/secondary items. God will be in our midst when two or three have gathered together in his name.

Do you regularly meet with Christians? Do you experience God’s presence there?
