NOAH: A 5-Day DevotionalIsampula
Watch today’s clip as one of Noah’s neighbors tries to negotiate a spot on the ark.
Today, we jumped forward to the New Testament to look at one of the eight places there in which Noah is recognized. His dedicated verse in the “Believers’ Hall of Fame” is a major honor. The chapter’s beginning with the definition of biblical faith also well describes Noah’s life as he built a boat in a generation that had never even witnessed rain, much less a flood.
So many of the situations found in Hebrews 11 came into reality only after faith had been expressed regarding something that had yet to become reality. But Noah and the others in this chapter didn’t place their belief in some future event or action, but in the God who made the promise. For Noah, the real focus was on the God of the ark, not the ark itself.
A person of faith consistently lives in the belief that God has a future and a hope in store for them, and He alone will bring it to pass. While everyone around Noah only had their eyes on the ark and its end purpose, his focus was only on the One behind the provision of His promise and purpose.
Noah and his family acted by faith in the unseen, and then God in His will brought about what was to be seen in His timing. None of the people in Hebrews 11 obeyed so that they could possess anything or make a victory speech at the end. They were driven out of a deep and reverent relationship with God. Their eyes were not on a resource or even a revelation, but a Redeemer. God’s promises were obeyed and followed, even though the fulfillment of the promise was somewhere in an unknown future.
Biblical faith is never a blind leap. Those come out of a lack of knowledge of what is on the other side. Faith operated in Christianity is out of God’s direction, knowing He is already on the other side. The life of Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Joseph, Moses, and the others listed provides compelling evidence that we don’t live to fit in here on earth, but rather we live here on earth to fill Heaven.
What is happening in your life today that can only be explained by Hebrews 11:1?
