U-Ahithofeli wathi futhi ku-Abisalomu: “Mangikhethe manje abantu abayizinkulungwane eziyishumi nambili, ngisuke ngimxoshe uDavide ngalobu busuku, ngimfikele ekhathele, eyethile, ngimesabise; bonke abantu abanye bayakubaleka, ngibulale inkosi kuphela, ngibuyisele kuwe bonke abantu; umuntu omfunayo unjengokungathi bonke babuyile; bonke abantu bayakuba nokuthula.” Leli zwi lamjabulisa u-Abisalomu nawo onke amalunga akwa-Israyeli. Wayesethi u-Abisalomu: “Mawumbize noHushayi umArki, sizwe okusemlonyeni wakhe naye.” UHushayi esefikile ku-Abisalomu, u-Abisalomu wakhuluma kuye, wathi: “U-Ahithofeli ukhulume kanjalo; siyakwenza njengokusho kwakhe na? Kwathi uDavide esefikile eMahanayimi, uShobi indodana kaNahashi waseRaba labantwana bakwa-Amoni, noMakiri indodana ka-Amiyeli waseLo Debari, noBarizilayi wakwaGileyadi waseRogelimi baletha amacansi, nemicengezi, nezitsha zebumba, nokolweni, nebhali,* nempuphu notshwele, nobhontshisi, nembumba, nenhlosa, nezinyosi, namangqanga, nezimvu, noshizi* wezinkomo kuDavide nabantu ababe naye ukuba badle, ngokuba bathi: “Abantu balambile, bakhathele, bomile ehlane.”

Lapho izinceku zika-Abisalomu zifika kowesifazane endlini, zathi: “Baphi o-Ahimayo noJonathani na? Owesifazane wathi kubo: “Bawela umfula wamanzi.” Kwathi sebebafunile kodwa ababatholanga, babuyela eJerusalema. Kwathi sebesukile, bakhuphuka emthonjeni, baya babikela inkosi uDavida, bathi kuDavida: Sukuma uwele masinyane emanzini, ngoba uAhithofeli wenze icebo ngawe. UDavida wasefika eMahanayimi. U-Abisalomu wadabula iJordani, yena nawo wonke amadoda akwa-Israyeli kanye naye. U-Abisalomu wabeka u-Amasa induna yempi esikhundleni sikaJowabe; u-Amasa wayeyindodana yendoda egama layo linguJitra, umIsrayeli, owangena no-Abigayili indodakazi kaNahashi, udadewabo kaSeruya, unina kaJowabe. O-Israyeli no-Abisalomu bamisa ezweni lakwaGileyadi. UDavide esefikile eMahanayimi, noSobi indodana kaNahashi eRaba labantwana bakwa-Amoni, noMagiri indodana ka-Amiyeli eLodebari, noBarizilayi wakwaGileyadi waseRogelimi, Lethani imibhede, nezitsha, nezimbiza zebumba, nokolweni, nebhali, nempuphu, nokolweni othosiwe, nobhontshisi, nodalili, namabele athosiweyo; nezinyosi nebhotela nezimvu noshizi ezinkomo zikaDavide nabantu ababe naye ukuba badle; ngoba bathi: Abantu balambile, badiniwe, bomile enkangala.

Ngizomfica ekhathele, nezandla zakhe zingenamandla, ngizomthelekela, abantu bonke abanaye babaleke, bese ngibulala inkosi, yona nje kuphela. Ngiyakubabuyisa kuwe bonke abantu. Uma ubulala oyedwa nje lo omfunayo, bonke abantu bayakuba nokuthula.” Leli lizwi lamjabulisa u-Absalomu nawo wonke amalunga akwa-Israyeli. Wayesethi u-Absalomu: “Mawumbize noHushayi, umArikhi, sizwe ukuthi yena uthini.” UHushayi wafika ku-Absalomu, u-Absalomu wathi kuye: “U-Ahithofeli ukhulume lokhu, senze njengokusho kwakhe na? UHushayi wayesethi kuZadoki no-Abhiyathara, abaphristi: “U-Ahithofeli umeluleke kanje kanje u-Absalomu namalunga akwa-Israyeli. Mina ngabeluleka kanje nakanje. Kwathi ukuba uDavide afike eMahanayimi; uShobi, indodana kaNahashi waseRabha kwa-Amoni, uMakhiri, indodana ka-Amiyeli waseLo Debhari, noBharizilayi, umGileyadi, waseRogelimi, bamlethela amacansi, imicengezi, izitsha zebumba, ubhontshisi, ukolo, ibhali, impuphu, utshwele, imbumba, inhlosa, uju, izaqheqhe, izimvu, noshizi, bakuletha kuDavide nakubantu ababenaye ukuze badle, ngokuba bathi: “Abantu balambile, bakhathele, futhi bomile ehlane.”
