He Crowns Me

Praise the Lord…who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.

Psalm 103:2; 4

Excited to be crowned homecoming queen, I couldn’t wait to show my mom the sparkling tiara. The next morning, I ran into the room where my mom was having her coffee, twirling in excitement. I held out the crown and exclaimed, “Look, Mom, I’m the Queen!”

She put her cup down and looked at me and said, “They must have miscounted the votes.” I knew then that I would never be enough. My mother, if given the chance, would not have voted for me.

I became chronically critical of myself. It was a dark time. But what seemed like the worst thing was actually a shift in my life that made me curious about God. Did He like me? Was He aware that I was crowned under those Friday night lights? Slowly I became interested in knowing those answers. I wanted to become a Christian and know this God who made me. I discovered He does know every part of me—and He loves me.

Friend, do you ever wonder if you are enough? This verse assures us that He places His very own crown on our heads, a crown of love and mercy. This crown is more than a popularity crown—it’s a crown hard won through His death in our place. We are His, we are enough, and we are loved. Wear the crown and live your best life because of Him!

Today I will remember:

  • He redeems me from the dark and brings light to my path.
  • He crowns me with a victory crown.
  • His crown is one of love and mercy, compassion and forgiveness.

Lord, some days I live in the “not enough” space, forgetting all You have done and the things You promised. You crown me with love. May I wear it daily and never forget that You live in me by Your Spirit.
