The King is Here

I love this passage for several reasons.

1. I know it’s part of the amazing story that leads up to Jesus coming into the world, which is the high point of the Bible!

2. Zechariah and Elizabeth were at least 60 years old and hadn’t had any children yet – they’d longed for this child, they’d waited for this child, and now this child is promised and given purpose by God! (Luke 1:7,18)

3. I know that their baby will recognise who Jesus really is before either is even born! (Luke 1:41)

Have you ever considered how significant it is that each of us was born? Jesus’ birth is definitely the high point of history, but each and every birth is special to God because we are His children and image-bearers of our King! We reflect the amazing God who made us! John’s birth was an answer to his parents’ prayers. He was welcomed as one who would declare that the true King was coming. He was filled with the Spirit and told he would lead many to the Lord! Jesus is the high point of the Bible – but John was born with the privilege of knowing this was the case. And, John was born knowing his role was to walk the earth telling everyone – the King is here; get ready to meet Him.

Recently, the King of England visited Australia and you could not help but be aware of this. Media reported his every move. Cities were transformed. People were telling others – the King is here! Have you seen him? How much better is the news we have to tell? The King of all creation, the King who loves us and died for us is here! Let us rejoice, like John, because the King has come!

A Season of Waiting

“The original definition of advent was used to describe the preparation time to welcome the arrival of a person or event of significance. For Christians, it is a time to prepare to remember the birth of Jesus as our saving one (Messiah).” (What Is Advent? Kath Henry). As we approach Christmas & the New Year, read along with this plan and focus your hearts back on Him.
