Introduction

1 Chronicles 17:16–27: Today’s reading is David’s response to the message the prophet Nathan delivered from God. He offers a prayer that incorporates praise, thanksgiving, and request.

[David prayed]: “I ask you to bless my descendants so that they will continue to enjoy your favor. You, LORD, have blessed them, and your blessing will rest on them forever.”

For what does David thank God in his present time? What past actions of God draw David’s praise? What does he ask for the future? What promises of God are close to your heart?

Gracious God, there is no one like you; you alone are the true God, and you are the same yesterday, today, tomorrow, forever. I thank and praise you for your steadfast love and for all your mighty deeds. Amen.
