DAY 1: Called to Serve

In a time of profound political, civil, and spiritual turmoil, the movie God’s Not Dead: In God We Trust "explores the enduring relevance of faith in public life and the fight to keep religious values at the heart of governance.” In this fictional but oh-so-pertinent story, Reverend David Hill grapples with a crucial question: Does God still have a place in politics?

He feels compelled to enter the congressional race in Arkansas, where the favored incumbent desires to remove all religious influence from public policy. Navigating modern politics's dark and choppy waters, Pastor Hill’s faith, optimism, and principles are tested as he faces relentless scrutiny. Thankfully, “his campaign becomes a beacon of hope for those yearning for spiritual and moral leadership in a divided nation.”

God inspires action in His children. Our bodies and our minds are to be used for His glory. He expects us to love one another and to show His love by example. Indeed, true leadership is rooted in serving others selflessly and with integrity.

This is exactly what Jesus did for three years as He led and taught His disciples here on Earth. Surely, they learned as much from watching his actions and responses as they did from hearing His words. Although the lessons weren’t always easy, with His help, accomplishing the results He desires can be done.

How beautiful for us, His creation, that His training and evangelism efforts have reached far and wide after His death, resurrection, and ascension to heaven.

This ripple effect should be our desire, too. Our actions should speak louder than words so everyone we influence will see that Jesus lives in our hearts. Undoubtedly, a godly life will be proof of the truth we profess.

Perhaps most importantly, the souls of fellow humans should mean more to us than recognition or personal comfort.

Meditate on today's Scripture passages as well. Ask the Lord to speak to your spirit and give you directions for serving others.
