How often do you hang out with your friends or the community around you? Everyday? Once a week? A few times a month? Time with friends is important, without it, you wouldn’t be able to have closeness and opportunities to grow together. Within friendships, growing together in Jesus is important because when you have friends who are walking through life with Jesus, you most likely will be going through similar seasons. Without close friendships rooted in Jesus, it can be easy to feel isolated and alone. This is not how God designed life to be. We are created to be in relationship with each other, and not just a surface-level friendship but having friends who you are able to talk through the hard things with.

There are probably a lot of opportunities around you to be involved in community that you may not even be aware of. Within your church, there may be something similar to a small group or community group which is a great opportunity to get connected with others from your church that are in a similar season of life that you are in. Small groups are normally divided by age or what season of life someone may be in. (middle school, high school, young adults, young married couples, families with young children, empty nesters, elderly, etc.) The goal of a small group is to come together to study God’s Word and to build relationships with other believers while doing so. This is a great opportunity for fellowship and to ask questions about your faith with others who are probably wondering the same thing. While going through the study this week, I encourage you to pray for God to provide opportunities for you to get plugged into a community group or small group within your church. God will always provide opportunities for us as believers to come together and grow in relationship with Him and with one another.

This week will be about obeying Jesus, growing together, fellowship, and what prayer looks like within your community. There are plenty of passages provided in the Bible that set the example of what growing in and with your community looks like. God created us to grow together.

Rhythms of Grace

As people who follow Jesus, we are considered to be His disciples. This simply means that - through the Spirit’s power – we are learning to be with Jesus in order to embody His teachings for His mission. Throughout Scripture, we see a variety of ways that Jesus and the people of God have learned to commune with God. Historically these have been referred to, by the Church, as the spiritual disciplines or spiritual rhythms. The purpose of these rhythms are not simply to do them, but to grow in our relationship with Jesus.
