21 Days to Building a Faith Filled Family - Audio Devotional預覽
The Important Role of Identity in your family
Welcome back. It’s Day 2 of our 21-day devotional to Building a Faith Filled Family! Today, we'll explore the significance of identity in forming a strong family.
As we prepare for our time together today, let me pray for you.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for this day and for the opportunity to walk with you as we consider and reflect on the concept of identity within our families. We ask for your wisdom and perspective as we contemplate who we are individually and collectively as a family. Bring to our minds the significant events and memories that help to define who we are. Father, help us let go of anything that holds us captive. Amen.
I encourage you to make yourself comfortable and give these next 15 minutes your full attention. Remove any distractions you can. If you’re listening to the audio, you can close your eyes and let the sound of my voice guide you on this journey.
What is identity?
Identity is a fundamental aspect of every person. It shapes how we perceive ourselves, what we're called to do, and who we're becoming. Our personal identity is a blend of thoughts, feelings, desires, fears, actions, and beliefs that influence how we view ourselves and the world around us.
Simply put, your identity is what makes you uniquely you. It's the essence of your being and covered with the fingerprints of God.
Every family is composed of unique individuals with diverse personalities, interests, and backgrounds. Combined together, each individual influences every aspect of their family. It is this special blend of people that create their family identity.
It’s how you answered the question I asked yesterday: What’s your family all about?
Your answer to this question gives insight into your family's identity. It encapsulates what makes your family distinctively yours. The collective identity of your family influences your values, beliefs, behaviors, environment, choices, and perspectives from the very beginning.
Given the profound impact of family identity on our lives, it becomes evident how crucial it is to shape it intentionally for the betterment of yourself, your family, and future generations.
Right now, your family has an identity, whether consciously shaped or not. You have values, traditions, behaviors, and so much more that define you.
Take a moment now to reflect on your family's identity. What traits and behaviors currently characterize your family? How do people perceive your family? What does your family believe to be most important? Are these the behaviors and values that you want defining your family?
[PAUSE FOR REFLECTION]
Don’t worry. We’re not going to tackle the entirety of your family culture in these 15 minutes. Today, we're simply taking an honest assessment of who your family is today and taking into consideration who you want your family to become.
If you've accepted Jesus as your Savior, then you know deep within your soul that you are a beloved child of God. And as a child of God, your identity is in Christ and it has the power to influence every aspect of your life, especially the life of your family.
Pause for a moment and let that truth sink in.
[PAUSE FOR REFLECTION]
As we continue, think about how your identity in Christ shapes your perception of yourself, your relationships, and the decisions you make within your family.
[PAUSE FOR REFLECTION]
As you meditate on these thoughts, take a moment to pray. Pour out your heart to God, expressing gratitude for your identity in Christ and asking for wisdom to navigate your family life with grace and purpose. Let Him guide you on who He wants your family to be.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of my identity in Christ. Help me to fully embrace this truth and let it permeate every aspect of my life, especially within my family. Guide me in shaping our family's identity based on your love and truth. May our collective identity reflect your grace, unity and purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen.
As you continue on this journey, remember that an identity in Christ is the foundation we set and build our family life on. Trust in God's guidance and embrace the unique role He has given you within your family.
I’ll leave you with Jesus now. Take as much time as you need.
Until tomorrow!
