Your Move

15天中的第8天

Do you know the feeling when you owe someone something? Maybe someone loaned you money when you were in a tight spot, or maybe you wronged a friend in a pretty big way and they forgave you, no strings attached. No matter the circumstance, we all know what it’s like to feel like there is a deficit in a relationship. Every time you see that person, you feel reminded of what you need to do for them. Pay them back. Extend forgiveness. You see what they did for you, and you see what you should do for them. In this letter to the Roman church, Paul talks about debts, saying we should always pay them off. Well, except for the debt of love.

In other words, we should never stop feeling like we owe those around us anything. Because ultimately, we do owe them! We owe them love—the kind of love that was demonstrated to us and given to us. We should settle our accounts in all the ways we can, yes, but we should never settle the account of love. There is no closing the book, checking the box, and calling it done. Love is an outstanding debt we should sense and feel in every interaction we have with those around us.

This week, look for opportunities to live in response to a debt of love to everyone you encounter, especially your family.
