Take Risks

Over the last four days, we’ve covered some pretty important topics. We’ve talked about building a strong foundation, embracing discomfort, and finding godly confidence. Now we’re ready to take some risks.

What does taking risks look like? It looks like welcoming the changes that come our way, learning and growing through them, and using them as a springboard to become more like Jesus—and to make a difference in the world around us. And consistent, fruitful risk taking means doing these things not just once, but over and over.

Esther is a great example of a risk taker. The Book of Esther tells us that she had a big choice to make that would affect thousands of people. She could either endanger her life and approach the king uninvited—a risky move in that time and culture—or do nothing and watch her people get wiped out. Check out what she says to her cousin, Mordecai:

“Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.” Esther 4:16 NLT

Talk about taking a risk! If you keep reading Esther, you’ll see that God protected her, the king listened to her, and she succeeded in saving her people. Why? Because she was willing to step into the opportunity God had put in front of her.

How could you take risks in your own life? Just take a look at the opportunities God puts in front of you each day. Sometimes, the opportunities will be big, like moving to a new place or starting a new job. A lot of times, the opportunities will be smaller, like showing vulnerability and opening up to people. Taking these steps as God gives them to you will help you continue your journey of growth.

Next Step: As you start this new chapter in your life, ask yourself: How can you keep taking risks? Invite a trusted friend or mentor to help you consider this question and see what steps God might want you to take.
