Day 13: The Fruit of the Filling
Come Before Him in Worship: Open your heart before the Lord and offer him your praise and affections. Meditate on each fruit of the Spirit and tell him your desire to manifest these fruits in your life for the sake of his kingdom and His glory. Surrender your life as a sacrifice for his work in you.
Reflect: When we are filled with the Spirit, we do not look like the world. Only God can make us people who overflow with love for all, even our enemies, without thought for how it serves us: (1) People of joy and supernatural peace when everything around us seems to be falling apart. (2) People who respond with patience, kindness, and goodness in the face of mistreatment and wrongs. (3) People to whom faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control flow naturally.
This list can help us to identify when we are NOT filled with the Spirit. When we recognize that this is not our experience, it is good to examine what it is in us that perhaps has quenched or grieved the Spirit in us, like quenching a fire by covering it with dirt or water. It may be that we’ve given in to the flesh, in some way, even in our thought life which is just as real before God as our actions. Maybe we have let anxieties rise up and steal our trust or let a lie of the enemy take root. Stay close to Jesus throughout your day, asking him to help you learn how to walk in the fullness of the Spirit!
Respond in Prayer: Holy Spirit, teach me to walk throughout my day in the fullness of your Spirit. Is there anything within me that may hinder my ability to receive that fullness? Make me sensitive to what causes me to veer off the path at any point today. Father, strengthen me with might through your Spirit in my inner man. I want to be rooted and grounded in love and able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height of Christ’s love which passes knowledge. Fill me with all the fullness of You God.
